How it works
How it works
From your gift to a changed life.
Perhaps you want to give, but you want to know exactly how it works before you do. Here is the whole journey, from your first click to the stories you hear back.
Your journey
Four simple steps.
Choose a program.
Explore more than 50 Bridges of Hope programs, close to home and in 21 countries. Take the time you need to find the one that moves you.
Give with confidence.
Give once or monthly, from Canada or the United States, or honour someone with a gift from the Gift Catalogue.
We put it to work.
Your gift is directed to the program you chose and carried out by local leaders under a written agreement with Bridges of Hope.
You hear the story.
Receive your receipt, then stories, photos and results from the program you support.
Behind every program
Every program is a Bridges of Hope program.
We do not pass your gift along and hope for the best. Bridges of Hope keeps direction and control over every program it funds.
- A written agreement sets out the activities, the people responsible and the reporting required.
- An approved budget. Funds are released for the activities we approve.
- Regular reports. Program leads report on activities and spending, and we review the results.
- Local leaders. People from the community carry out the work, with our support and training.
Where your gift goes
Your preference guides our work.
You may choose the program you want to support. As required by CRA guidelines, the final decision on the use of funds rests with Bridges of Hope, and if a program is fully funded your gift goes where it is needed most.
Leading a work that fits our purposes?
Walk with us.
If you lead work in poverty relief, education, health, orphan care, clean water, income generation or support for newcomers, and would like to explore carrying it out as a Bridges of Hope program under our direction and agreement, we would be glad to talk.
Questions
Good questions deserve clear answers.
Is my gift tax deductible?
Bridges of Hope issues official receipts for eligible gifts in Canada. Donors in the United States can give in US dollars through Bridges of Hope USA.
Can Bridges of Hope issue receipts on behalf of another charity?
No. Bridges of Hope issues receipts only for gifts to Bridges of Hope and its own programs.
How will I know what happened with my gift?
You receive a confirmation and receipt, then updates and stories from the programs you support.
Can I give to a specific program?
Yes. Give from any program’s page, or note your preference with your gift. The final decision on the use of funds rests with Bridges of Hope.
Disclaimer: Bridges of Hope International Network of Development Agencies (BOHINDA) is a registered Canadian charity. Donors may indicate a preference for how their donation will be used; however, the final decision on the use of all funds rests with BOHINDA. In accordance with CRA guidelines, if BOHINDA is unable to use the donation as the donor prefers, the donation will not be returned, but will be applied to the organization’s charitable purposes where it is needed most.

Why we do what we do
In Jesus’ name. For the glory of God.
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me… Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”Matthew 25:35–36, 40 (NIV)
Six people Christ asks us to see. Six ways we answer.
Matthew 25 is our inspiration: we answer the call of Christ to care for the poor, the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the stranger and the prisoner, with compassion, love, justice and mercy, and we serve every person with dignity, whatever their faith. Every plate, well, classroom and loan is an act of worship. To God be the glory.
