Pull for Poverty

pull for poverty

Imagine knowing extreme hunger and thirst from as early as you can remember. At a young age you find yourself working to help with the family income, instead of attending school. One day you wake up to find your mother has died of starvation. As a result of that your sister is married away, and you are sold to a master, forced to work as a slave in a cocoa plantation so the rest of the world can have their chocolate.

This is part of Bridges of Hope’s founder and CEO Daniel Zopoula’s story and it is the story of 20 million plus people that are in bondage across the world today. One thing is certain for all these places….these stories will remain unchanged as long as the rest of the world stands by and watches. The social injustices of this world are pulling the human race down, and its time for us to pull back!

Pull For Poverty

Bridges of Hope will be hosting its first ever “Pull For Poverty” this year. “Pull For Poverty” is a round robin tug-of-war tournament fundraiser that will help raise awareness about poverty in the world today. We are inviting different individuals, groups and businesses to enter a team into our tournament and help Bridges of Hope bring light to the issues that matter most. Each team will consists of 6 participants, and will be required to raise $100 in pledges per person, or a minimum of $600 per team. All the money will be donated directly to Bridges of Hope in aid of all the work they are doing to help children in Africa. Prizes will be awarded to the individual that raises the most pledges, and to the top three tug-of-war finalists. There will be official “Pull For Poverty” t-shirts provided for all team members, and we are encouraging you to bring your own cheering squad to join in the festivities as well. Our hope is to see the whole community of Lethbridge come together through this event to partner with Bridges of Hope in the fight against poverty.
